Not too long ago, I was at the tail end of a speech and I started taking questions.
One particularly smart lady in the group asked, “Why do I get stuck when I try to think of content ideas?”
I’ve been asked this question many times. And depending on the situation, I answer it differently.
But on this day, I thought about the subject more deeply.
And this is what I said to her…
“Honestly, it’s because you’re being selfish”.
Yes, confrontational, I know lol.
I continued to say…
“When you or I or anybody else in this room are stuck for content ideas, it’s because we’re thinking about ourselves and our own needs – our own wants. We’re not thinking about the audience. We’re not asking ourselves, or at least staying open to the questions that our audience is asking.”
And that, my friend, is the secret to coming up with content ideas.
Be obsessed with your audience.
If we’re obsessed with solving our audience’s problems and giving them the outcomes that they want, it’s really easy to come up with content ideas.
And when I say obsessed, I mean obsessed with it. Not just having a peripheral desire to solve their problems.
I’m one of those people that obsess with solving the audience’s problems. So, I can tell you now: I’m never, ever short on content ideas.
