Email subject line secret
How do you come up with email subject lines?
Well, however you’re doing it now, I probably have a better way.
Over the years, I’ve probably written thousands of content and promotional emails. I’ve studied the subject intensively.
And there’s something I’ve learnt about crafting amazing subject lines.
Use curiosity.
Let me show you a few examples. We wrote these subject lines for a client who helps people quit smoking.
Here’s one of his email subject lines:
‘Cravings.’
That’s it.
Like I said, the client owns a quit smoking business. This one word was enough to grab attention and make people want to read the email.
Another subject line was ‘Failure.’
The email began as follows:
‘Quitting may be disheartening. If you’re a smoker who’s trying to quit, you may understand the discouragement…’
If you’re a smoker who wants to quit, how do you not continue to read?
So here are two tips for crafting strong subject lines:
- use curiosity
- use only a few words (mobile devices limit space)
Then, of course, your first sentence of the email has to pull your reader in…
Get this done and you’ll get people reading your emails.
